2018 National Mixed Foursomes

Communications & Press Officer Jason O’Connor reports on today’s National Mixed Foursomes in Lakeside.

FOR the second time in four years, the Sean Coyne Memorial Cup is going to the St Stephens club in Cork after Mairead Manning & Dave Towler matched the 15up total posted by Mary & Alan Daly when they were the victors in Collins back in 2015. Rounds of 8up and 7up gave them their winning total as their lead from the first session lasted through until the competition’s end.

The win sees a third National title for Mairead in the space of three years and a second in 2018 as a National Junior Ladies Strokeplay win in 2016 on home turf is now followed by an Intermediate title in Collins back in July along with today’s success. Dave also follows in the footsteps of his sons Ryan (National U-16 Strokeplay) and Glenn (National U-16 Matchplay) in winning a national honour. Their score was one ahead of Riverdale duo Margaret & Dean Courtney who finished as Runners-Up for the second time in three years after posting a score of 14up when including a strong second round of 9up.

The other prize-winner from the morning session was the session prize itself as Veronica Anglim & David Cahill from Hillview had rounds of 8up and 4up in posting 12up in finishing one ahead of the combination of Sive Shelley & Conor Keating from the host club. The afternoon session meanwhile saw the Gross prize-winners emerge as 2016 Overall winner Chrissie Byrne once again teamed up with Ryston club-mate Darren Keogh to win the prize with a score of 9up.

That was just one ahead of Linda & Ray Murphy on 8up as the session prize would go to Marie & Richard Brennan of Bellewstown who had two rounds of 5up in posing a 10up total as the Murphy’s missed out on another prize with a 9up Nett score.
