Communications & Press Officer Jason O’Connor reports on both Inter-Club events in Hillview and Bruff today.

WE are guaranteed a new winner of this event with today’s proceedings in Hillview as Tipperary Hills ended Fermoy’s reign as holders in difficult conditions at the Clonmel track. The defending champions may have led 2-1 after the Scotch Foursomes with Jimmy Quinn & Dylan Seymour (3&2) and JJ Quirke & Dave Connolly (1up) giving them their two points as Daniel Ryan & Ray Lyons (2&1) gave Tipp Hills their first point.
The Singles swung the Tipp Town club’s way however as they have four wins courtesy of Lyons (6&5), Brian O’Flynn (4&3), John Martin (3&2) and Ryan (1up) to secure their win as the match between Charlie Compton and Dylan Seymour from the Cork club finished all square. Keith Flynn was Fermoy’s only Singles winner after a 3&2 success over Michael Brennan to see the match finish at 5.5 to 3.5. Last year’s Runners-Up in the grade, Riverdale, will be their opponents in an all Tipperary Semi-Final as they had the biggest win of the day over St Patricks of Enniscorthy by 7.5 to 1.5. Riverdale won all three doubles matches with Sean Minogue & Peter O’Brien (4&3), John Minogue & Seamus Gleeson (3&1) and Dean Courtney & Michael Brophy (2up) giving them the best possible start.
Four of the Singles matches would go their way as well as Dean Courtney and Sean Minogue both won 4&3 with O’Brien (2up) and John Minogue (2&1) their other winners. Kevin Doyle (6&5) was St Patricks only outright winner in the match as the match between James Kirwan from the Wexford club and Brophy finished all square. Gowran were the only victors from Leinster on the day as they got the better of 2016 winners Parteen by 6-3. It was honours even between both teams after the doubles at 1.5 apiece with Kieran Hogan & Kevin Flynn (2&1) securing Parteen’s point and Derek Whelan & James Casey (4&3) getting Gowran’s win.
The match between Gowran’s Tom Fitzpatrick & Kevin Knox along with Parteen’s Tommy Fennell & Ger Kehoe could not produce a winner as there was a further tie in the Singles match between Brendan Moloney (Parteen) and Robert Middleton (Gowran). The Kilkenny club won four out of the remaining five Singles matches however to take a 6-3 win with Derek Delaney (4&3), Whelan (3&1), Fitzpatrick (2up) and Knox (1up) their winners as Tommy Fennell (2up) won Parteen’s sole Singles point. Deerpark of Killarney will be their opponents in the Semi-Finals after the Kerry club qualified for another Finals Day courtesy of a 7-2 win over Bagenalstown of Carlow. All three Doubles matches went Deerpark’s way as John O’Brien & Noel Moynihan and Gearoid Cronin & Lorcan Martin (both 2up) and Adam Kelly & Darragh O’Callaghan (2&1) saw them sweep the board early on.
Brian Doyle (2&1) and Keith McDonald (1up) did win Singles points for the Carlow side but Deerpark went on to their fourth Finals Day in six stagings with Singles wins for John O’Brien (8&7), and 3&2 successes for Kieran Fitzpatrick, Adam and Declan Kelly.

NINE shots separated the four qualifiers in Bruff today but they were well clear of the other two sides in the field as defending and three-in-a-row seeking champions Fermoy 1 topped the list at the end of play. In fact all four sides that qualified were from either Cork or Tipperary come the conclusion of the 36 holes. A 21 under par total from John Cahill led the way for them as Declan Freeman brought in 11 under, David Sexton eight under, Peter O’Donovan seven under, Barry Morrissey five under and Daniel Keohane three under in contributing to their total score of 55 under par.
Lakeside were second on 52 under, 12 under for Stephen Shoer, 11 under for both Mick Fennell and John Cahill, Paul Shoer Jnr shooting nine under, Paul O’Brien eight under and Noel Leahy one under in finishing on 596 strokes. Two-time winners St Annes were next with 49 under par, Liam Myers leading the way with 13 under par followed by John O’Sullivan two strokes behind with 11 under. Darren Collins had nine under, Ray Murphy eight under and David Doyle and Ryan Towler both had four under in putting the Cork side through to another Finals Day.
The last spot was claimed by Hillview on 602 as James Cleary with 14 under led the way for the Clonmel club. David White had 10 under, Noel Joyce eight under, Paul Sweeney and John Fitzgerald six under par each and Michael Kennedy two under in bringing them to a final total of 46 under par.
They were 38 strokes clear of their nearest challengers Collinstown on 640 with the Fermoy 2 team brining in a score of 645.
