National Secondary Schools Finals Report & Results

P.P.U.I. - 24/10/2014 - Carraigaline Community School crowned 2014 Champions

IT was a Cork 1-2-3 at the National Secondary Schools Finals in Ryston this afternoon as after coming second in the Munster competition two weeks earlier, Carraigaline Community School were crowned 2014 victors by two shots from Colaiste Chriost Ri. Rounds of seven under par from David Howard, two under from Ian O’Donoghue and four over par from Shane Livesey gave Carraigaline their 319 total as they became the first school to win the competition from outside the host province of the event.

Chriost Ri’s second place finish came courtesy of rounds of eight under par from Conor Irwin, one under par from Evan Sheehan and six over par from Darren Hourihan. Last year’s winners David College from Mallow were third on 323 with Edward Walsh shooting eight under par, Greg Barrett three over and Roy Whelan four over par. That was three shots better than St Brendans College, Killarney who were fourth on 326.

Leinster Champions Ard Scoil Ciaran Naofa 1 of Clara had the best score of the Leinster Schools on 330 while St Patrick’s Navan’s Conor Doyle had the best individual score of the day with nine under par.

Further information on today’s competition is available from the attached scoreboard below along with a set of photos from the PPUI’s Flickr page.

Finally a big thank you once again to Nevada Bobs from their sponsorship of both the Provincial and National Schools Events this year.
